How To Share A Selected Photo/ Video With A Link On iOS 2018 GUIDE

Nobody likes megabyte attachments. However, iOS 12 allows iOS users to quickly share photos, videos or other items from the Photos library just by generating Dropbox-style links so that anyone will be able to access and download that shared media.

Here are some highlights:

With iOS 12, you can create iCloud.com links to share photos and videos

Anyone can view and download your shared items

Macs, Windows and other devices can easily access shared items through a web interface

On iOS devices, sharing happens in the Photos app

Links will automatically expire after 30 days

Requirements:

This is what you have to generate iCloud.com sharing links:

iOS devices with iOS 12

iCloud Photos needs to be enabled

People you share the link don’t need to have iCloud Photos enabled

How to create iCloud.com sharing links

All you need is to do the following steps to generate a sharing link of items in your Photos library:

1) Launch the Photos app on your iOS 12 device.

2) Tap on Select in the upper-right corner.

3) Choose one or more media items you want to send to someone.

4) Select the Share button.

5) Tap on Copy Link in the bottom row.

There will be a message saying that your photos and videos are being prepared for sharing, which will need a few seconds, depending on the size of the shared media items.

6) When a link is in the system clipboard, simply use the Paste action to send it to the people that you want with Messages, Mail or other apps. However, Photos in Mac still lack this link-generation feature.

Mobile

You don’t have to manually open a link since the improved Siri intelligence in iOS 12 will detect it in Message and then automatically show previews in Photos.

Receiving a link in an email on iOS devices also creates a preview page directly in Photos. If you open a link on a non-iOS device, like an Android phone, you will be taken to an underlying download page.

Desktop

Accessing a link in your desktop browser will open a designed download page on iCloud.com for the preview with a grid of thumbnails.

The media will be shared with full EXIF data, which includes the camera model and location. The link may consist of the sender’s name, title, as well as the neighborhood where the images were taken. However, you should keep that in mind if you consider online privacy before iOS 12 is officially released. The public iOS 12 version will get rid of location data and other information about the shared items.

To get the items before a link expires; you should add them to your library in Photos or download them to your computer or Android device. You should note again that nothing is added to your Photos library if you don’t cherry-pick a selection of the shared photos and videos you want to keep.
